Biography

When I was a child I wanted to be a doctor, but as I grew older my life detoured in other directions. However, I never lost my passion for studying the mysteries of the human organism, both mind and body, and ways to keep it functioning at optimum level. For nearly 10 years I worked for McGraw-Hill's educational publishing division as editor for their high school and junior high school health programs known as Glencoe Health and Teen Health. When I wasn't busy with those programs, I edited art textbooks.

Then I went to work at Shape magazine for another nine years, where I served as copy chief and associate managing editor. During these 20 years, I have never been far away from health research and information.

I have a personal trainer certification from American Council on Exercise with specialties in Lifestyle and Weight Management, Yoga, and Exercise for People with Health Challenges.

While I am not a physician, as an experienced, informed layperson, I want to help provide people with the empowerment to take care of themselves to the best of their abilities so that they can live long, productive and happy lives.

My focus in this blog is to find and present information to readers that will enhance their health and fitness. In today's busy world with news updates flying at us with the speed of light, it's difficult to keep up.

That's where I come in. My research and filtering process with links to cutting-edge Western sites as well as alternative, holistic health sites (often with an Eastern influence) is the place to check first for updates. This blog is not meant to provide medical advice, always talk to your doctor first, but it is a site that offers food for thought and natural methods for achieving and maintaining sparkling vitality.
