On September 23, 2007, I wrote about a biomarker to help predict heart attack years before it ever occurs. Shortly thereafter I received the following comment from Burton Lee, president of Lee Biosolutions:
“You will soon find major diagnostic companies who are applying for FDA approval … after years of research, to manufacture myeloperoxidase calibrators and controls for mass assay platforms and have them available to hospitals. As a manufacturer of human myeloperoxidase protein, this is a protein that I feel will have one of the greatest impacts on survival at the emergency room level as an early predictor of a heart attack.” Burton Lee, President, Lee Biosolutions, www.leebio.com.
I was delighted to see the comment, but after reading it I have a question about my original post. The information I had said that myeloperoxidase (MPO) could be used as a predictor many years in advance of a heart attack, but his quote above seems to indicate that MPO will be used as a marker in emergency rooms after the event has take place.
Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new event in the history of medicine!
